Laser hair removal in summer, is it OK
Summer in Baku is long and sunny, so this is one of the questions we hear most. The short answer is that sometimes it is fine, but the rules get stricter and winter is the ideal season.

Summer is when your legs, arms and bikini line are on show, so it is exactly when most women want to be done with hair. But with laser hair removal, the season is not just about convenience. It affects safety and results. Here is an honest answer to whether laser hair removal in summer is a good idea, and when it makes more sense to start.
Laser hair removal in summer, the short answer
Yes, in some cases. If your skin is not tanned, the zone stays protected from the sun and you follow the aftercare rules closely, your specialist can treat you in summer. Areas that stay under clothing, such as the bikini line and underarms, carry less risk in the warmer months.
Freshly tanned skin, skin straight out of a sunbed or skin just back from the beach is different. There the answer is usually "not yet". Your specialist makes that call each time by looking at your skin, not a general rule from the internet.
Why sun and tanning matter
We use an original Candela Alexandrite laser (755 nm). It targets melanin, the pigment inside the hair. The darker the hair and the lighter the skin, the more precisely the energy goes into the hair.
A tan means more melanin in the skin too. Then part of the energy can go into the skin instead of the hair, which raises the risk of burns, pigment marks or strong redness. That is why the general rule is no fresh tan and no sunbed for about 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after a session.
Skin type and hair colour matter too
Alexandrite works best on dark hair and light to medium skin (Fitzpatrick types I-IV), which covers most of our clients in Baku. In summer, though, the same skin can darken noticeably within a few weeks, and the settings have to follow.
Naturally very dark or freshly tanned skin needs a consultation first, and sometimes this machine is not the right fit. On white, grey or very light blonde hair the laser does not work in any season, because the hair has no pigment to target. We are open about this at the first visit.
If you book a session in summer
The zone itself matters as well. Areas that stay under clothing every day are easier to treat in summer. Legs, arms and face catch more sun, so the rules there are stricter. Some clients keep going with covered zones over summer and save exposed ones for autumn.
A few simple rules lower the risk a lot:
- Keep the zone out of the sun for 2 weeks before, and skip the beach and the sunbed.
- Shave the zone 12-24 hours before your visit. Stop waxing, plucking and epilators about 4 weeks before, because the laser needs the root.
- Do not hide a tan. Your specialist may adjust the settings or move the session a little later.
- For the first 24-48 hours after, avoid the sauna, hot baths, the pool and sweaty workouts.
We put the full checklist in our guide on preparing for your first session.
SPF and the days after your session
Your skin stays sensitive for a few days after treatment. Mild redness for a few hours is normal. During this time, though, the sun affects your skin more easily.
So on exposed zones, especially your legs and arms, apply SPF 50 every day and reapply before you go out. Light, loose clothing that covers the skin helps, and so does avoiding direct midday sun.
Skip scrubs and acids on the zone for the first few days. We walk through aftercare step by step in this article.
Why winter is the ideal laser season
We always say winter is the ideal laser season, and the reasons are simple.
First, your skin is not tanned in winter, so your specialist can work with stable, effective settings. Second, the zone is under clothing anyway, so sun protection takes no extra effort. Third, there is less beach, pool and heat in your plans, which makes the aftercare rules much easier to follow.
Timing matters too. A main course is usually 6-8 sessions. Your specialist sets the interval individually, usually 4-6 weeks for the face and 6-8 weeks for the body. So a course takes several months, and squeezing it into one summer is not realistic.
Why starting now makes sense
If you start in autumn or winter, most of the course is behind you by spring. Our clients usually notice after the first 1-2 sessions that hair grows back sparser, finer and slower. So when summer arrives, you are enjoying the result instead of reaching for a razor.
If you have already started a course and summer is coming, you do not have to stop. You and your specialist can plan around it: covered zones continue, and for exposed ones the interval can stretch depending on your tan. Just do not hide it.
Planning the budget is easy as well. Half legs are 15 AZN, full legs 25 AZN and full arms 15 AZN. You will find every zone on our prices page, and you can split payment over 3 or 6 months.

FAQ
How soon after a beach holiday can I come in?
We usually suggest waiting until the tan has faded, about 2 weeks. Your specialist will confirm after checking your skin.
Can I do my bikini line in summer?
Often yes, since it stays under clothing, as long as it has not tanned at the beach. Avoid the pool and the sea for 24-48 hours after.
How long should I use SPF after a session?
Apply SPF 50 to exposed zones every day for at least 2 weeks and reapply during the day. In summer it is best to keep it up for the whole course.
