The result of laser hair removal depends first of all on the machine. Our studio works with an original Candela Alexandrite laser (755 nm). On this page we explain in plain words how it works, why we chose an original machine, who it suits and who it does not.
What an Alexandrite laser is
An Alexandrite laser emits light at a wavelength of 755 nanometres. That light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, melanin. The energy turns into heat and weakens the hair root (the follicle), while affecting the surrounding skin as little as possible.
After each session the hair grows back sparser, finer and slower. Our clients usually notice this after the first 1-2 sessions. The main course is most often 6-8 sessions, because not all hairs are in their growth phase at the same time.
The more melanin there is, the better the laser works. That is why Alexandrite gives its best results on dark hair and light to medium skin (Fitzpatrick types I-IV).
Why an original Candela Alexandrite matters
There are machines on the market with a similar name and look that are not original. From the outside the difference is hard to see, but in the session you feel it. An original machine delivers the energy shown on its screen, the pulses stay consistent, and the cooling works properly together with the laser.
That means two things. First, a predictable result: the settings the specialist chooses are the energy your skin and hair actually receive. Second, safety. More energy than expected can irritate the skin, less energy means a wasted session.
Our machine is listed as «Orijinal Candela 2025». We chose it on purpose. A cheap machine looks like a saving, but extra sessions and weak results end up costing more. We explain how prices are built in our article on laser hair removal cost.
Alexandrite and diode lasers compared
Many clinics in Baku work with diode lasers or «Soprano» type machines. These are working technologies too, they simply follow a different principle.
- Alexandrite (755 nm) is absorbed more strongly by melanin. On dark and medium hair, and on relatively fine hair, it often shows a clear result in fewer sessions.
- A diode laser uses a longer wavelength and reaches a little deeper into the skin. It is sometimes considered the better option for darker skin.
- «Soprano» type machines warm the zone gradually with many low energy passes. Some people find this gentler, but reaching the result can take more sessions.
Which machine is «better» depends on your skin and hair type. For dark hair on light and medium skin, Alexandrite is a strong choice.
Who it suits and who it does not
Candela Alexandrite works best when:
- the hair is dark, brown or black;
- the skin is light or medium in tone (types I-IV);
- the skin has not been sunburnt recently.
When it does not suit, or a consultation comes first:
- white, grey and very light blonde hair. It has almost no melanin, so no laser works well on it;
- very dark or freshly tanned skin. A consultation is needed first, and sometimes the procedure may not be suitable;
- pregnancy and breastfeeding, when the procedure is usually postponed.
Zimmer cooling
A Zimmer cold air unit works alongside the laser. It blows cold air onto the skin before, during and after each pulse. This greatly reduces the feeling of heat and protects the skin.

Safety and the specialist
However good the machine, the result is decided by the person using it. In our studio the procedures are done by laser specialist Fatima Aliyeva. She sets the parameters individually for your skin tone, hair thickness and zone.
Before the session, always tell the specialist about pregnancy or breastfeeding, an active skin infection or herpes in the zone, medication that makes the skin sensitive to light (for example isotretinoin), epilepsy triggered by light, a fresh tattoo in the zone, or a tendency to keloid scars.
The studio is in Narimanov, Baku, and works with women only. Visits are by appointment only, with no waiting line, and in the room the door is closed with only you and the specialist inside. Disposable towels and slippers are included.
What a session feels like
Shave the zone with a razor 12-24 hours before your session. The specialist checks the skin, chooses the settings and begins. Most clients describe each pulse as a short warm snap, and the cooling keeps it comfortable.
Mild redness for a few hours afterwards is normal. The hair sheds gradually over 7-14 days. You may see black dots on the skin, which are hairs burnt at the root, and they leave on their own within 7-14 days. A gentle scrub and a moisturiser help. Use SPF 50 when you go out in the sun.
